Re: NRA Annual Meeting, Kansas City
Thank you all for promoting the NRA Annual Meeting and encouraging your members to volunteer their time to assist us in Kansas City. The following is for your information and to reprint in your various member communications, if you so desire.
NRA Meeting A Resounding Success!
The 130th NRA Annual Meeting in Kansas City, MO was an unqualified success. The three-day convention compared very favorably with last years meeting in Charlotte where new records were set in every conceivable category. But, unexpectedly, even some of those records fell in Kansas City!
Total attendance is now being estimated at 48,200, including 3,150 new members. The annual members banquet was a sell-out at 2,700 and the Friends of NRA national banquet seated 1,000 supporters. The Friends fundraising dinner set a new record for net revenue for The NRA Foundation at $102,000!
The new memberships total was our second best ever. (Charlotte did over 4,000.) But because of the unusually large number of upgrades to Life, Endowment, Patron or Benefactor, the generated revenue set an all-time record in excess of $32,000 more than ever before!
The NRA Sales Store, meanwhile, could hardly keep up with the demand. It was reported that the store grossed over $200,000 in Charlotte last year, but that included a state sales tax. By deducting the sales tax, this years sales set another record at nearly $195,000, which is actually $5,000 more than last year.
The NRA Air Gun Range was also a busy venue. Shooters were allowed five shots for a dollar. Of course, many chose to shoot multiple times, but the total number of five-shot tickets recorded was 1,506.
Although specific attendance figures were not available, nearly every other activity or program conducted over the weekend reported tremendous support and participation. The Annual Members Meeting, Sportsmens Prayer Breakfast, various workshops, receptions and special sessions all enjoyed unparalleled attendance.
In short, Kansas City hosted one of our best annual meetings ever, if not the best!
A great deal of the credit for this accomplishment must be extended to the corps of volunteers who worked tirelessly for five days to make it all happen. Including the volunteers who helped put the Friends of NRA national banquet together, more than 260 dedicated NRA members devoted their time and effort to ensure that our 130th Annual Meeting was an outstanding success.
In addition, many state associations and affiliated clubs or other organizations played a key role by publicizing the NRAs need for volunteers, and encouraging their members to get involved. Not surprisingly, a large percentage of the volunteers came from Missouri and Kansas. But significant contributions were also provided by volunteers from at least 15 other states!
To all of you who contributed, the NRA simply and sincerely says "Thank you".
